What is a marching krewe?

 There are as many versions of New Orleans’ Mardi Gras as there are participants and the parades form a big component of the celebration.  Parades that range from petite to super.   From hand-crafted to professionally-crafted.  From mega-floats to marching boots.    

I Wanna Do That! defines a marching krewe as a group of creative souls who join together to participate in a parade/parades centered around Mardi Gras. These marchers may walk or dance the route, may ride individualized motor vehicles, or roll conveyances that are powered by people.  There is a performative component that may include, but goes beyond the performance of music.   I Wanna Do That! explores not just the differences, but the common attributes of this work.  Join us to explore what gives New Orleanians a shining badge of civic identity – the marching krewe.
